R & J ~ forced with a choice

A big turning point in the play “Romeo and Juliet” is when Tybalt (Juliet’s cousin) and Mercutio (Romeo’s Friend) fight and both end up dying. After Romeo attended the party at the Capulet mansion, it cause a lot of tension between the two families when Tybalt caught Romeo talking to Juliet at the gathering. Tybalt is a very tough character in the play and seems to always be up for a fight. He is very protective when it comes to him and his family.

Approaching the montogues did not go as plan for Tybalt as he ended up dying in the streets of Verona after a fight with Romeo who sought revenge because Tybalt killed Romeo’s friend Mercutio by stabbing him in Act 3, Scene 1. Tybalt attacked Mercutio because he insulted him and Mercutio goaded him into a duel to protect Romeo’s honor. Romeo was very upset of the death of his very loving friend and ended up fighting Tybalt. After Benvolio (Romeo’s cousin) explained the whole story to Prince Escalus, Romeo was banished from the city of Verona rather than sentenced to death.

This caused the play to take a turn as it was even harder for Juliet to see her Romeo. After a secret night with Juliet the night after, he was then forced to flee to Mantua instead of staying in Friar Lawrence’s cell.

When the Nurse eventually reveals to Juliet that Romeo was the one to kill Tybalt, she then recants the accusation, and asks the Nurse, “Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband?”.
